Q: WD-40 or Graphite – Which one of these should I use for the lock of my vehicle?
A: Both should not be used in the locks of any vehicle. WD-40 is like petroleum-based lubricants which turn dry over a span of time and turns into a sticky film. This will in turn trap dirt and road grime and destroy the lock from inside. On the other hand, graphite is a good choice for security locks in houses, offices, and hotels. But it is not a good choice for vehicles. Most vehicle locks are pre-greased in the factory and putting a lubricant like graphite can only make the inside of the lock sticky and gluey. For longevity, vehicle locks function best with Teflon or silicon-based lubricant which are found in most hardware and home improvement stores. We use Tri-Flow for ours services, but remember there are other brands in the market that work well with any vehicle type.
Q: I found my lost keys but they are not functioning anymore. Can I fix this situation?
A: The reason for this is that transponder technology enabled cars run on the programs which is set into the system. To install a new key, the old programs in the system have to be disabled and due to the new program, the old key is not working. But you can always fix such a situation. You can ask your locksmith to enable the old program into the system which will allow you to use the old and the new key simultaneously. But if you still face nay problem, please feel free to get in touch with us via an email or call our toll free numbers.
Q: Can I program my Transponder key?
A: Most transponder keys are pre-programmed and this cannot be deleted from the system. The solution is to insert a new program which will enable a new code for your vehicle. This can be done by anyone who knows the equipment and the model of the vehicle and it is advisable for a professional to do so because the process can be tricky. If not done properly, you might damage the system.
